FX solutions for importers and exporters who want to protect their margins

Lock in competitive rates on cross-border transactions and protect your margins against currency swings while you move goods globally with confidence.

How does FX affect importers and exporters?

When you buy or sell goods across borders, the exchange rate can move between the day you agree on a price and the day the money changes hands. That gap can erase a margin. FinXtra helps importers and exporters lock rates with forward contracts, pay suppliers abroad and collect from customers in their own currency, with access to wholesale FX liquidity.

Who we help

Importers paying suppliers abroad
You pay in a foreign currency but sell in Canadian dollars. Locking a rate means the cost of your goods is known before the invoice is due.
Exporters invoicing abroad
You price in your customers' currency. Collection accounts let them pay you locally, and you decide when to convert.
Companies with long supply cycles
Forward contracts run up to five years, so you can hedge orders you place months ahead.

Why FX is a margin issue, not a back-office task

On thin margins, a few points of currency movement can wipe out a supplier discount. Hedging fixes your rate in both directions, so you give up gains as well as losses. We help you decide how much of your exposure to lock and when.

Emerging markets: where most providers go quiet. We do not.

Your suppliers and customers are not all in the major currencies. Many providers handle the majors easily and go quiet the moment a payment involves Naira, Birr, CFA Franc, Real or Argentine Peso. FinXtra works corridors across Africa and Latin America, so you can pay and collect where your trade actually happens.

NGN (Nigeria)

ETB (Ethiopia)
Online payments against USD, GBP and EUR on standard spot value dates.
XOF / XAF (West and Central Africa)
Online payouts, and local collections so your regional customers can pay in a local format.
BRL (Brazil)
Local collections, hedging and routing, with Brazil's IOF tax handled when the payment is structured.
ARS (Argentina)
Local payouts, hedging and in-country collection accounts, despite capital controls.
MXN (Mexico)
Payments to and from Mexico, in both directions.

Availability and requirements depend on the currency, the country and your business. Your adviser confirms what is possible before you commit.

FX for importers and exporters: common questions

How do importers protect against currency risk?

Importers can lock an exchange rate with a forward contract, so the cost of an invoice in a foreign currency is known in advance. We review your exposure in a free analysis.

Can I collect payments from customers abroad?

Yes. Currency accounts let you collect funds, and 35 currencies can be collected. Contact us to confirm availability for the currency you need.

Can I pay suppliers in their own currency?

Yes. You can send payments in 135+ currencies. Ask us about the currency and country you need.

Do I need to post collateral to hedge?

Ask us about zero margin forwards, which have no upfront collateral requirement for qualifying clients. We confirm the terms for your situation during your free analysis.

Why are your rates better than my bank's preferential rates?

Banks often waive small transaction fees but keep a wide markup on the exchange rate itself, which is where the real cost sits. We give you access to wholesale FX liquidity usually reserved for large corporations, with transparent, market-linked pricing.

Is FinXtra regulated?

FinXtra works with Ebury, which provides the payment and foreign exchange services. Ebury Canada is registered with FINTRAC, and all client funds are held with Ebury Canada in line with regulatory standards. See the regulatory disclosure at the bottom of this page for the US, UK and Mexico.

This page is general information, not financial advice. Services are subject to eligibility and approval. Hedging fixes your rate in both directions.
