FX solutions for NGOs, nonprofits and charitable organizations

Every dollar donated deserves to arrive in full. Your mission does not end at the border, but your bank's willingness to help often does. Move donations, grants and aid across borders with no hidden markups. Transparent FX pricing so every dollar reaches its destination, not a bank's margin.

Why does FX pricing matter for charitable organizations?

Every point lost to a currency markup is a point that does not reach the people you serve. Charities and NGOs send grants, pay field teams and partners, and receive donations in several currencies. FinXtra gives you transparent pricing with a full breakdown of costs, including any currency markup, before you commit, and access to wholesale FX liquidity.

Built for missions, not for margins

Your bank sees your NGO as a compliance liability. FinXtra sees you as the reason cross-border payments need to work better.

Multi-currency accounts
Hold, receive and send funds in the currency of each program country. Your Kenyan shilling budget can stay in shillings until you need it otherwise.
Protection from FX swings
A program budget planned in USD should not shrink by the time it arrives in the field. Forward contracts let your finance team plan with a known rate, so more of what donors intended to give gets delivered.
Clear records for donors
Funders want proof that every dollar reached its destination. Disclosed FX rates and timestamped transaction records give your finance team what it needs for grant reporting.

Who we help

NGOs sending aid and grants abroad
You send funds to partners and programs in other countries. You want to know exactly what arrives and what it costs.
Charities receiving international donations
Currency accounts can collect 35 currencies, so donors can give in their own currency and you hold the funds in an account in your name.
Nonprofits paying field teams and partners
You can send payments in 135+ currencies, so teams and partners on the ground are paid in their local currency.
Diaspora and community organizations
Receive donations from North America and Europe, then convert and send them to community programs in Nigeria, Colombia or the Philippines, with the full cost shown at every step.
Humanitarian and emergency relief
Time-critical funding for active crisis zones. We prioritize onboarding when a disbursement cannot wait, and your adviser is there when it matters.
Grant-making institutions
Structured disbursements to implementing partners in several jurisdictions, with transparent rates on every payment.

How FinXtra works for your business

1
Free 20-minute FX analysis
We review where your funds come from, where they go and which currencies you use today.
2
Set up your account
Opening an account is free. We set up payments and the currency accounts you need.
3
Send or collect
Send grants and payments abroad, or collect donations in foreign currencies.
4
Plan your budget
If a budget is in a foreign currency, a forward contract can fix a rate in advance. Ask us whether it fits your organization.

We are not a bank. That is the point.

Banks often treat NGOs as high-risk, low-margin accounts, and the real cost of a transfer is rarely clear. FinXtra is built for organizations that work across borders. We understand grant timelines, in-country field offices and the reporting your funders expect, and we show you the full cost, including any currency markup, before you commit. That gives your finance team a clear figure to report to donors and boards.

Africa: the continent where most providers stop. We do not.

Most FX providers handle the major currencies easily and go quiet the moment you mention Naira, Birr or West African CFA Franc. They will tell you it is complex. We will tell you it is our specialty. FinXtra works direct corridors across Africa, including restricted-currency and managed-float markets that many banks will not touch without a long onboarding process and a stack of unexplained fees.

NGN (Nigeria)
Arranged through your adviser, who locks the rate and executes the transfer directly. Documented for NGO compliance.
KES (Kenya)
Fast disbursements to field operations across East Africa.
ETB (Ethiopia)
Online payments against USD, GBP and EUR, with a regulated structure for restricted-currency environments.
XOF / XAF (West and Central Africa)
Coverage across the WAEMU and CEMAC zones, with online payouts and local collections.
GHS, MUR, TZS, UGX, RWF
Pay and receive in the Ghanaian Cedi and the Mauritian Rupee, alongside Tanzanian, Ugandan and Rwandan currencies. Direct settlement, no hidden correspondent fees.
ZAR, BWP and the SADC corridor
Southern Africa coverage from South Africa outward, including payments and receipts in the Botswana Pula.

Speed and availability depend on the currency, the country and your organization. Your adviser confirms what is possible before you commit.

Latin America: volatility is the reality. We have built around it.

Latin America is one of the fastest-growing regions for international NGO activity, and one of the most underserved by conventional FX providers. IOF taxes in Brazil, local payment rails in Mexico and managed-exchange rules in Argentina are not edge cases. They are the reality of operating there. FinXtra works market by market, so your team moves funds with confidence, not workarounds.

BRL (Brazil)
Local collections and routing, with IOF handled when the payment is structured for registered NGOs.
MXN (Mexico)
Payments to beneficiaries across Mexico, with settlement speed confirmed by your adviser.
COP (Colombia)
Direct settlement, with no unofficial channels.
PEN (Peru) and CLP (Chile)
An Andean corridor with full documentation.
ARS (Argentina)
Local payouts and in-country collection accounts, within local managed-exchange rules.
Other Latin American currencies
Ask your adviser about BOB, PYG, UYU, GTQ, HNL, DOP, CRC and PAB.

Availability depends on the currency, the country and your organization. Your adviser confirms what is possible before you commit.

FX for NGOs and charities: common questions

Are there account opening fees?

Opening an account is completely free, and you get full access to the platform.

Can you handle restricted currencies like the Nigerian Naira or Ethiopian Birr?

We work direct corridors across Africa, including restricted and managed-float currencies such as NGN, ETB and XOF/XAF, and you can pay and receive in GHS, MUR and BWP. Some, such as the Nigerian Naira, are executed through your adviser rather than the online platform. Availability and requirements depend on the currency, the country and your organization, and your adviser confirms them before you commit.

Do NGOs face special compliance requirements for international transfers?

Charities and NGOs are generally subject to enhanced due diligence, especially when funds go to higher-risk countries. We tell you upfront which documents to expect, such as your registration documents and a short overview of your payment needs, so the process does not stall.

Can we send money to partners in their local currency?

Yes. You can send payments in 135+ currencies. Ask us about the currency and country you need.

Can we receive donations in foreign currencies?

Currency accounts can collect 35 currencies. Contact us to confirm availability for the currency you need.

Do you support multi-user access for field offices and distributed teams?

Yes. Administrators can add as many users as you need, set custom access levels, build approval workflows and require dual authorization (the four-eyes principle) before funds are released. You set it up to match your governance.

How can I fund a payment?

Options include bill payments, electronic funds transfers, bank wire transfers and pre-authorized direct debits. For security and regulatory compliance, cheques and cash are not accepted.

Can we hedge a budget set in a foreign currency?

A forward contract can lock a rate for up to five years. Whether it fits your organization depends on your situation, which we review in a free analysis.

Is FinXtra regulated?

FinXtra works with Ebury, which provides the payment and foreign exchange services. Ebury Canada is registered with FINTRAC, and all client funds are held with Ebury Canada in line with regulatory standards. See the regulatory disclosure at the bottom of this page for the US, UK and Mexico.

This page is general information, not financial advice. Services are subject to eligibility and approval. Hedging fixes your rate in both directions.
