How do I send money in local currency to Latin America?

You fund the payment in Canadian or US dollars through FinXtra, and your recipient receives the local currency, for example Brazilian reais, Colombian pesos or Peruvian soles. Local currencies move, so plan for it

Several Latin American currencies can move sharply in a short time. If you pay or receive in them regularly, your costs and margins move too. Forward contracts let you lock a rate where they are available for the currency, and limit orders let you aim for a rate you choose. Ask us which tool suits your currency and timing.

What to know before you pay in the region

Each country has its own rules and rails. We structure every payment around them.

Pay in local currency
Your recipient receives pesos, reais or soles directly, instead of a dollar wire they have to convert.
Country rules differ
Some countries apply taxes or exchange rules to cross-border payments, such as the IOF tax in Brazil. Your adviser explains how they apply.
See the full cost first
You see the rate and the full cost, including any currency markup, before you commit, so you can compare it with your bank.

The currency list reflects what we can handle today. Availability depends on the route and the amount, and we confirm it for each payment.
