How do I pay a European supplier in euros from Canada?

You fund the payment in Canadian dollars through FinXtra, and your supplier receives euros in their European bank account. Before you confirm, you see the exchange rate and a full cost breakdown, including any currency markup. That makes it easy to compare us with your bank on the same day and the same amount.

Who uses CAD to EUR payments

Canadian importers with euro invoices
You buy goods, equipment or materials from European suppliers and want to know the Canadian dollar cost before you pay.
Businesses with recurring European orders
Your payments repeat every month or quarter, so a small gap in the rate adds up over a year. A clear process and a locked rate make budgeting simpler.
Companies that sell in CAD but buy in EUR
You quote your Canadian customers in dollars, but your costs are in euros. A move in the rate cuts straight into your margin.

How CAD to EUR payments work with FinXtra

1
Free 20-minute FX analysis
We review your supplier payments: amounts, frequency, timing and the currencies involved.
2
Open your account
Opening an account is free. You get access to the platform and a dedicated adviser.
3
Fund and pay
Fund your payment in CAD. We execute it and your supplier is paid in euros, with a full cost breakdown shown before you commit.
4
Lock the rate when it makes sense
If you know a payment date, a forward contract can fix your CAD/EUR rate in advance.

Your euro invoice is also a currency position

Between the day you place an order and the day you pay, the CAD/EUR rate can move in either direction. If it moves against you, the same invoice costs more Canadian dollars. Forward contracts let you lock a rate for up to five years ahead, and limit orders let you aim for a rate you choose. Ask us which tool fits your payment schedule.

Compare the true cost of paying in euros

A quoted fee is only part of the cost. The exchange rate you are given matters just as much. Before any euro payment, check these four things.

The rate versus the market
Ask for the rate and compare it with the mid-market rate at the same moment. The gap is the markup.
Transfer fees
Some providers add a fee per payment on top of the rate. Add both together to get the real cost.
What your supplier receives
Ask whether intermediary banks deduct charges, so your supplier receives the full invoice amount.
Timing
Ask when the funds will arrive on your route, and plan around bank holidays on both sides.

We show the rate and the full cost, including any currency markup, before you commit.

CAD to EUR payments: common questions

Can I pay my European supplier in euros from Canada?

Yes. You fund the payment in Canadian dollars and your supplier receives euros. You see the rate and the full cost before you confirm.

Can I lock the CAD/EUR rate before my invoice is due?

Yes. A forward contract lets you lock a rate for up to five years ahead. The terms are confirmed with you during your analysis.

What if I want a better rate than today's?

A limit order triggers a trade when the market reaches a rate you choose. It is a way to aim for a better rate, not a guarantee of one.

Can you also pay suppliers in GBP, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN or HUF?

We handle 135+ currencies, including these. Availability depends on the route and the amount, and we confirm it for you during your analysis.

How is this different from paying through my bank?

Banks often build a margin into the exchange rate and may add a wire fee. We show you our rate and a full cost breakdown first, so you can compare both for the same amount on the same day.

How fast will my payment arrive?

In most cases a payment can arrive the same day. Timing depends on the time of day you book it, the currency pair and the corridor, which determine the payment rail used. We confirm the expected timing before you commit.

Are there account opening fees?

Opening an account is completely free, and you get full access to the platform.

Is FinXtra regulated?

FinXtra works with Ebury, which provides the payment and foreign exchange services. Ebury Canada is registered with FINTRAC, and all client funds are held with Ebury Canada in line with regulatory standards. See the regulatory disclosure at the bottom of this page for the US, UK and Mexico.

Payment and foreign exchange services are provided by Ebury under its terms and conditions. Availability of currencies, accounts and products depends on the route, the amount and your onboarding. Exchange rates move, so the amount you pay or receive depends on the rate when you transact. This page is general information, not financial advice.
